Diagnosed at 44
I noticed my first symptom at the age of 42, was diagnosed at 44 and am now 55. I thought it may be useful for people facing similar situations if I presented what my own early-onset diagnosis actually meant for my children, my wife and I. I decided that my own website would enable me to dodge the politics and protocols that exist in many representative organisations. With the help of my family and friends my short story is now at www.thebestofabadbunch.com and incudes one page snapshots of things such as what my early symptoms were, the shock of being diagnosed at a relatively young age, how the symptoms have progressed, the treatments and success of them over the past 15 years. If you have been newly diagnosed, be assured that there are many others that have gone along similar journeys. My theme is that while there will be some tough times ahead, everyone has these in some form or another. You can bet that there’s also good times ahead as well. But these are not handed out on a silver platter. They usually come from hard work and not from just being lucky. So get moving! Challenge yourself! Get out of that chair. You may be surprised at what you can do to help yourself, and those that care for you. 🙂
