Diagnosed at 49
I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s June 7, 2013. Just a month shy of my 49th Birthday. It was both a shock and a relief. A million things race through your mind. I’ve been so blessed to have a supporting, loving husband and family. Fortunately, my symptoms 2 years later have for the most part stayed on my left side. I was a dental hygienist for 30 years and finally after practicing for over a year after my diagnosis decided to retire . It was a difficult decision but the best one. I could now concentrate on my health and living life! PT and daily exercise have been the best thing and that is something I would stress to anyone newly diagnosed. My husband and I show Quarter Horses in Western Pleasure events and I was afraid I might not find a horse that would be able to tolerate my stiff left leg and body. I was so blessed to find a very special gelding that has been the best physical and emotional therapy possible. I am looking forward to showing and doing what I love for many years. It’s sooo important to have a positive attitude, keep moving and live your life!!
