Susan

Diagnosed at 54

I first noticed a tremor in my hand while at work as the Dean of Students at a high school in New Hampshire. After about four to six months of living with the tremor, the high school nurse, a friend of mine, suggested i see a neurologist ans i was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (PD) in March 2009. At the time I was divorced and I had just met a man I haD been dating for a year. he did not know i had been seeing a neurologist so the day I got my diagnosis I told him about it and told him I was giving him his opt but we could stay friends but he had not signed up for this. well we are still still together and we recently celebrated our 3rd anniversary. since my diagnosis I have stopped working but I fundraise for Parkinson’s research I have participated in medical trials studies I have spoken to high school students about Parkinson’s disease to put a face to this disease and to make people more aware I l. I thank Stephen for not opting out and I am so thankful that I have an addition of four step daughters joined with my three children as a new blended family while I do not like that i have his disease I’m thankful for the awareness that it has brought to me in my life and in my family.
