Diagnosed at 77
I first noticed a stiffness in my movements during my dance classes. Subsequently, I began to drool unexpectedly. I finally went to a neurologist who made the diagnosis. I must have looked stricken, for she reassured me that it was not the end of my world–that new medications are being developed and that there is a surgical procedure which helps once the medications lose their effectiveness. She also told me that my dancing was a prime factor in keeping the progression of the disease at bay. She was right! After 3-1/2 years of treatment, and at age 80, I am dancing as well as ever, the drooling is a thing of the past, and life is good. I can look forward to each new day. As mentioned in the bio, I am seeking training and teaching accreditation in the “Dance for PD” program and hope to start some classes in the West Los Angeles area. I am also an active actress.
