Susan

Caregiver for 30 year(s)

Hi! My name is Susan and this is our story! 30 years ago my father was diagnosed with PD. He noticed a twitch in his left pinky. He thought was too much coffee so he limited his intake. He I think was diagnosed then but I believe that it was not until 1987 when he retired as a Captain in the Navy is when we he was diagnosed 100%. I remember when I was looking around something in the bathroom cabnet when I ran across a starter kit prescription of Sinemet or Permax,
i cant remember which . Anyway to make a long story short i read it was for parkinson’s disease . I confronted my parents and they told me. That was when my world stopped and sitting here 30 years later, he is still with us thank God!!! My father is amazing! Best daddy a girl could have. He has been so strong ! We wanted to tell our story and started on a book! The title Please Don’t Take My Daddy! Its a story of dreams made and lost! A story of a strong family that has been struck by this devastating illness! What it did to each of us, who was in our lives and out and who is still standing strong! My father has fallen broken his shoulder and his hip. He has had Deep Brain Stimulation by an amazing doctor Dr Michael Desaloms in Dallas!! Highly recommend him! Amazing doctor with a great bed side manner! He was also the only doctor in the world that would soon after do my mothers back fusion my neck fusion and back fusion. He is the only doctor in this word I would ever…
